Welcome to the online exhibition Mother Earth: Cultivate, Transform, Feed. We invite you to explore how from the 18th century to the middle of the 20th century The Grey Nuns of Montréal ensured the food sustenance of the congregation and the people they cared for in Québec.

You will learn more about their agricultural skills in cultivating gardens, vegetable gardens and farms. To discover this content, major themes are developed via a timeline, via an interactive map or by keywords. Drawn from the archives of the Grey Nuns of Montréal, this exhibition highlights the sisters’ pragmatism and strategies for providing for themselves.

This virtual exhibition was made possible thanks to the Programme d’aide au virage numérique of the Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (National Library and Archives of Québec). We wish to thank them for their support.

Enjoy your visit!
